Here’s the need-to-know of it: CyberChef rocks. This tool is great at decoding inputs from different formats. Many attackers use encoding algorithms to obfuscate their payloads, and that’s just one of the many reasons that this tool comes in handy. It’s also useful for many infosec CTF competitions.
I’ll be updating this post with pictures and some examples of what can be done with CyberChef, but for the time being, if you want to play around with the tool, find it at the links below. There are two versions available: an online version hosted at https://cyberchef.org/, and an offline version that can be downloaded via the team’s GitHub.
The online version is convenient and easy for competition purposes, but if you are dealing with anything that may be sensitive or confidential data, I’d recommend using the offline version. Best to exercise caution and do your due diligence with the data you enter into any app, online or not.
